Robert Redford directs “The Legend of Bagger Vance,” a powerful movie that takes us on a spiritual journey of self-discovery and personal transformation. The story is set during the Great Depression when a high-stakes golf match is announced, featuring the greatest golfers of the era. Rannulph Junuh (Matt Damon), a once-promising golfer whose life was derailed by World War I, is asked to play alongside the stars, but his game is weak. The mysterious Bagger Vance (Will Smith) offers to coach Junuh, and together they embark on a mythological quest that transforms Junuh from a broken man to a great golfer. The film’s central message is that each of us has a perfect swing, one that is in perfect harmony with our gifts and talents. However, too often, we get caught up in the “shoulds” and fail to hear or respond to the signals that tell us that our passion and calling lie on a different path. We need to clear the clutter and get out of the way of our authentic shot, allowing it to choose us.
